In a bid to address the shortage of teachers in public primary schools, particularly in rural communities, the Ogun State Government has engaged 448 OgunTeach interns, who have now received their letters of engagement and posting.
The presentation of the letters took place at the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, marking another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen basic education delivery.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of SUBEB, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, said the engagement was deliberately targeted at rural primary schools where teacher shortages remain critical.
He warned the interns against seeking a change of posting, stressing that such requests would not be entertained.
“If you go to anybody to ask for a change of posting, the moment anybody calls me for a change, we will remove your name straight. There are many people seeking this opportunity, and you should appreciate Governor Dapo Abiodun for making it possible,” Ifede said.
The SUBEB chairman directed the interns to resume duty immediately upon receiving their letters, noting that failure to do so would lead to their replacement. He added that prompt submission of assumption-of-duty documents was necessary to ensure timely processing of salaries.
“We do not want your payment to be delayed. Payment is based on those who submit their assumption of duty early so that processing can commence,” he explained.
Ifede further urged the interns to work harmoniously with their Headteachers and colleagues, describing the engagement as a call to service rather than a “national cake.” He emphasized that commitment and dedication would determine their chances of permanent appointment.
“Basic education is critical. We want teachers who are determined to do the job effectively. Ensure that your learners can read, write and communicate properly,” he added.
Earlier, the Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr. Femi Fatade, disclosed that the selection process was strictly merit-based, adding that postings were carried out in line with the specific needs of rural schools across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the interns, Mr. Adedayo Taiwo expressed gratitude to the Ogun State Government under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun for the opportunity, pledging that the beneficiaries would discharge their duties diligently and meet the expectations of the programme.
